Known for providing top-notch brazing services, California Brazing was contracted by a client to manufacture a brazed assembly for the electronics and semiconductor industries. This assembly was to be used in a thermal management application. The challenge of this project involved our customer’s need to produce high volume quantities of this unit which would be capable of rapidly cooling and heating (0°C to 100°C) while maintaining tight temperature uniformity across the entire critical surface area.
Working closely with our client, we developed a multi-step machining process, which involved both hydrogen and vacuum brazing operations – using several precious metal BFM materials – to build an assembly that incorporated heat sinks, heaters, and body materials with vastly different coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE).
California Brazing managed all aspects of this project, from sourcing and purchasing of the appropriate materials to plating, cleaning, and machining. This assembly was completed using a variety of substances, ranging from tungsten and copper to ceramic and stainless steel. After manufacturing was complete, we then performed a series of evaluations to ensure that the unit possessed high quality braze joints and minimum temperature gradient when in operation. To guarantee ultimate product performance, we provided rigid process control in combination with non-destructive testing methods, such as ultrasonic imaging and IR thermal imaging. We also supplied our client with full documentation, including testing reports, certificates of conformance, and unique part serialization.
California Brazing partnered closely with our client to develop a brazing process that would properly produce a robust brazed assembly and would allow for active heating and cooling of electronic equipment. Meeting ISO 9001:2008 standards, we combined a variety of our premium services to manufacture high volumes of this assembly, fulfilling all of our client’s unique performance requirements. Exceeding our customer’s high expectations for quality and reliability, this part design is now currently being manufactured complete by our company.
